17-year-old killed when car skids sideways into oncoming lane

LAPEER COUNTY (WJRT) (1/11/2018) - A 17-year-old girl died early Thursday after her car spun sideways into the path of another car in Lapeer County.

Adrianna Phouvone of Columbiaville was driving a Pontiac G5 east on Burnside Road when her car crossed the center line and turned sideways just east of Booth Road around 6:35 a.m.

She spun into the patch of a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu with a 57-year-old woman from Clifford behind the wheel. The Malibu slammed into the driver's door of Phouvone's car.

Phouvone was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driving the Malibu was transported to McLaren Lapeer Region Community Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were still investigating what caused Phouvone's car to skid sideways.

The Lapeer County Sheriff's Office says neither alcohol, drugs nor excessive speed contributed to the crash. The roadway was wet, but there was no snow or ice present.
