Police: Bullet that went through Minnesota teen's body came from back seat

Officers were originally told the girl was shot in the upper chest, but they later determined the bullet entered her back and exited through her chest, said Steve Linders, a St. Paul police spokesman. She survived the shooting.

As police examined the vehicle, evidence showed the shot was fired from inside the vehicle, went through the back of the front passenger seat where the teen was sitting, struck her and exited through the windshield, Linders said.

The teen and others in the vehicle initially told police they were driving when a bullet came through the windshield and struck the 17-year-old girl. The 17-year-old driver immediately drove her to Regions Hospital, where police were called about 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police have not made an arrest in the case and said they continue to investigate, though Linders said the shooting victim and others who were in the vehicle are not cooperating with police.

There were three people when the vehicle arrived at the hospital — the driver, the victim and a 19-year-old backseat passenger — but police are looking into whether there was another person in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, Linders said.
