Alva’s Virasat at Moodbidri from tomorrow

The 24th edition of Alva’s Virasat, a three-day cultural extravaganza, will start on Friday at Moodbidri, offering a host of cultural programmes and showcasing the rich heritage.

Alva’s Education Foundation chairman M. Mohan Alva told reporters here on Wednesday that at least five cultural programmes, including dance and concerts, are planned during the Virasat. Nagaland Governor P.B. Acharya would inaugurate the programme in the presence of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade at 5.30 p.m. on Friday at Vidyagiri, Moodbidri. A mega procession would precede the inaugural programme, which would last till 6.45 p.m., followed by cultural programmes, including Devaranaama by singer Soorya Gayathri and Daffmuttu of Kerala by Muthirkkas Kottapuram and Team. Cultural programmes would start at 6.15 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday would have a music programme by Shankar Mahadevan and others, Mrudanga Tharanga, Kathak Dance by Upasana Centre for Dance, Kolkata and others.

Chithra Sangeetha by Kailash Kher and team Mumbai, Mandolin recital by Master Sadgun Aithal and Odissi Dance by Orissa Dance Academy would form part of Sunday’s programmes. Alva’s Samskrithika Vaibhava would be performed on all days at 10 p.m.
