Game Of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Big Little Lies have all landed nominations for the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards.
The shortlist for the TV categories were announced on Wednesday, with the seventh season of cult fantasy Game of Thrones, starring Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke, dominating the Dramatic Series section, scoring three out of the five entries.
Jeremy Podeswa was recognized for directing the episode The Dragon and the Wolf, Matt Shakman for The Spoils of War, and Alan Taylor for Beyond the Wall.
They will face off against The Duffer Brothers for Stranger Things’ season two finale, The Gate, while The Handmaid’s Tale’s pilot Offred, filmed by Reed Morano, round out the category.
Aziz Ansari’s Master of None picked up two nominations for Comedy Series for The Thief, which the funnyman himself directed, and Thanksgiving, shot by Melina Matsoukas, while Veep’s Beth McCarthy-Miller (Chicklet episode), The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), and Silicon Valley’s Mike Judge (Server Error) are also up for the prize.
Meanwhile, Big Little Lies’ Jean-Marc Vallee will compete in the TV Movie/Mini-series category against Scott Frank (Godless), Kyra Sedgwick (Story of a Girl), Barry Levinson (The Wizard of Lies), and George C. Wolfe (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks).
The movie nominations for the DGA Awards are set to be released on Thursday.
Filmmaker Judd Apatow will host the ceremony in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Feb. 3.
