NOIDA: An IAS aspirant and her mother were beaten up by their neighbours after they objected to repeated eve-teasing by a youth, who stayed in the house right opposite to the their own.
The 20-year-old girl who was preparing for an online exam organised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Agra on January 6 and her mother Geeta were allegedly beaten up with sticks and a hockey on the evening of December 31.

The girl however could not appear in the exam due to her situation.

According to the father of the girl, a youth named Rohit (20) who stays in their neighbourhood in Morna village of Sector 35, was stalking her daughter for the past two years.

"He would pass comments directly or indirectly whenever I will step out for college. A few months back, he called me on my number and I asked him not to call me ever. After that, I broke my SIM card," the girl told TOI.

While the complainant said there was no other issue than the eve-teasing, they admitted that the accused party did not like the fact that they had bought a small plot opposite to their house and build a small house.

"They might be eyeing the land but we had asked them before buying it. We have only one daughter. She was doing a course media communications from a private college in Delhi's Karol Bagh but had to stop doing the same after her mother started keeping unwell as she has only one kidney. She was preparing for the exam being held by the RBI for the post of a personal assistant but could not give it because she has been beaten up," Kunwar Pal told TOI.

Pal said that it all started on December 14 when his daughter was talking about the misbehaviour she would occasionally suffer at the hands of Rohit.

"My girl was talking about it in the house. Hearing about his son's behaviour, Vinod arrived at our house along with his wife Babita, brother Adarsh and his wife Mukesh. They had almost started beating us when our relative Babli arrived and saved us. The next day when my wife went out for a morning walk, Adarsh told her to keep her mouth shut or she would have to run. She immediately informed me and we went to the Sector 24 police station. However, there was immense pressure from the villagers' side and we decided not to complain thinking that we will have to listen to what the villagers are saying," he said.

Kunwar further said that on the evening of December 31, Vinod's wife Babita was standing outside their house with a stick and attacked his wife as soon as his daughter left the house. "I was not present in the house when Babita and Mukesh overpowered my wife. When my daughter arrived from market, she tried to intervene but she too was beaten up," he said.

While Geeta has suffered a fracture in her right arm, his daughter has injuries under her eye, her nose and hands. The beating stopped when a group of neighbours arrived at the spot and asked the assailants to stop beating up the duo.

Police lodged a case under breach of peace under CrPC 151 and sent the family to the office of the city magistrate.

However, the next day when the family went to lodge an FIR, the police pressurized them to compromise with the other party, the family have alleged. The mother of the girl was referred to the Safdarjung hospital where she remained admitted for a day. "When we refused to compromise, they issued the matter to the city magistrate showing it breach of peace under CrPC 151. We then went to the SSP on January 3 when he ordered that relevant sections be added in the FIR," Kunwar said.

An FIR has been lodged under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (Punishment for assault or criminal force) and 506 (criminal intimidation) against Vinod, his father Rajkumar, brother Adarsh, Vinod's wife Babita, Adarsh's wife Mukesh, relative Jai Singh and sons Shiv Kumar and Rohit.

Akhilesh Tripathi, Sector 24 SHO said that the police has lodged an FIR in the matter and the matter is under investigation. "We have lodged a cross FIR against the complainant too as they had installed a CCTV camera since the complainants would repeatedly allege about eve-teasing at the hands of the youths. It is wrong to say that we did not take cognisance of the matter. We got medical of both the parties involved," he said.
