Terry Mango, of Stockholm, Sweden, spoke out following the online storm which erupted over an image of her son modelling a jumper bearing the slogan “coolest monkey in the jungle”.

Retailer H&M has since come under fire over the “racist” advert as shoppers called for a boycott of the high street chain.

Celebrities such as Manchester United footballer Romelu Lukaku and basketball player LeBron James have also slammed the advert.

But Ms Mango urged critics to “get over it” and “stop crying wolf”.

In a series of scathing Facebook posts, she wrote: “Am the mum and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modelled... stop crying wolf all the time, unnecessary issue here... get over it.

“I really don’t understand but not coz am choosing not to bur because it's not my way of thing sorry.”

She also revealed she has been to all her son’s photoshoots and “this was not an exception”.

Her dismissive comment was met with surprise as social media users questioned why Ms Mango was endorsing the image. 

In a separate post she added: “Everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

The image advertising the £7.99 jumper was removed from H&M's US and UK websites shortly after the outrage broke and the retailer quickly issued a statement apologising to “anyone it may have offended”.

But many have already pledged to boycott the store, as The Weeknd - a Canadian R'n'B star who produced menswear collections with the chain - said he was cutting ties with the company.

LeBron James fumed on social media: “U got us all wrong! And we ain't going for it! Straight up!

“Enough about y'all and more of what I see when I look at this photo. I see a Young King!! The ruler of the world, an untouchable Force that can never be denied!

“We as African Americans will always have to break barriers, prove people wrong and work even harder to prove we belong but guess what, that's what we love because the benefits at the end of the road are so beautiful!”

While music mogul P Diddy tweeted an altered version of the image, saying: “Put some respect on it! when you look at us make sure you see royalty and super-natural God sent glory.

“Anything else is disrespectful.”

Referring to the green jumper on Twitter, Labour MP Kate Osamor said: "I was totally shocked, dismayed to say the very least to find this online imagine. @hm do you think this imagery is an appropriate representation of a young black boy?"
