Defence seeks penalty for prosecution

 Former army chief general Moeen Uddin Ahmed was the architect of the two false graft cases against former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. The cases were filed for damaging her (Khalada) political career said the defence counsel Barrister Jamir Uddin Sirkar regarding the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Referring the 1/11 care taker government , the BNP permanent committee member, Sirkar in his argument further said, " the then BNP government made Moeen Uddin Ahmed  as army chief superseding many officers".
The former speaker of the national parliament during the BNP regime Jamir Uddin Sirkar continued the defence argument for the eighth day on Wednesday.
Earlier another defence counsel AJ Mohammad Ali concluded his arguments in the case.
While concluding his argument, the former attorney General Ali submitted a petition before the court for taking legal action against the six prosecution witnesses including Investigation Officer Harun-or-Rashid for making forged records in this case. However, the judge did not pass any order on the petition.
During the argument, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was present in the court.
After the eighth day of defence argument, Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman of Special Judge's
 Court-5, set up on the ground of Alia Madrasha at Bakshibazar, adjourned the hearing till today (Thursday) for submitting the rest of the arguments.
 ACC chief prosecutor Mosharrof Hossain Kajol was present in the court for the state.
On July 3, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case with the Ramna Police Station, accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
Another case is Zia Charitable Trust graft case which was filled on August 8, 2011, with Tejgaon Police Station, accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia, of abuse of power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
