Ku Primacio would have been celebrating his 19th birthday in two weeks. Instead, his family is planning his funeral.

The teen was killed in a car crash in Hauula on Tuesday morning.

He was with two of his family members when their Toyota pickup crashed into a tree around 4:20 a.m.

Investigators say the truck flipped and trapped the three people inside. Ku died at the hospital. They were just moments away from home.

“It’s rough. Nobody wants to have that kind of phone call. But he is with his mommy now,” said Melissa Primacio, Ku’s adoptive mother.

Ku’s biological mom died in a car accident in Hauula when he was just 3 years old. His biological grandmother was also killed in a Hauula car crash.

The Primacios are hoping to break the cycle and urging everyone not to visit the crash site because of the windy, narrow road.

Instead, they are asking everyone to drop flowers off for Ku at the Kahana Bridge.

“The scene itself is a very dangerous area … we wouldn’t want any other parent to go through what we’re going through. So, because we already had three generations of car accidents and passings from that, we just ask that everybody please be very careful,” Melissa Primacio said.

Ku’s other two relatives were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The 27-year-old driver was released from the hospital on Thursday. The 22-year-old female passenger, who is suffering from a broken back, broken ribs, and punctured lungs is still recovering at Queens Medical Center. Police say speed and driving under the influence are suspected.

“I love him and I’m proud of him. To the man that he’s become. And although we make bad choices, that doesn’t define who we are. He was a really good boy,” Primacio said.

Although Ku was only 18 when he died, he did it all. From football to rugby, paddling and soccer coaching, the senior at Kahuku High School also loved to hunt, dive and cook.

Kahuku high, intermediate, and elementary schools have students making signs and writing letters for Ku.

A balloon release will take place at Kahuku District Park at 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Everyone is welcomed to attend and encouraged to wear pink, which is Ku’s favorite color.

“I know that families are forever…so I know I will see him again…and that’s what comforts me…Heavenly Father has a plan and he needed him, and so he went,” Primacio said.

She said Ku’s funeral services will be at the Laie Chapel on Jan. 20. Everyone is welcomed to attend.
