Schools: Kyle Downing leads Nipmuc boys basketball past Whitinsville Christian

Kyle Downing scored 22 points, with two 3-pointers, to lead Nipmuc past Whitinsville Christian, 59-50, in a Dual Valley Conference boys basketball game.

Senior forward Kyle Downing scored 22 points, with two 3-pointers, to lead Nipmuc (5-2, 2-1 DVC) past visiting Whitinsville Christian, 59-50, in a Dual Valley Conference boys basketball game on Wednesday.

Junior Jack Tempesta added 14 points in the win for the Warriors.

Downing scored 17 of his points in the first half as the Warriors built a commanding 36-15 halftime lead.

Nipmuc plays at Blackstone-Millville in a DVC game on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

HOPEDALE 63, DOUGLAS 29: Junior Robbie Siefring had a team-high 12 points to pace Hopedale (4-3, 2-0 DVC) past Douglas in a Dual Valley Conference game.

Senior Isaac Moore added 11 points for the Blue Raiders.

Hopedale next plays at Sutton on Friday at 7 p.m.

OLD COLONY 73, TRI-COUNTY 36: Senior Scott Saunders had eight points, six assists and four steals, but Tri-County (1-4) fell to Old Colony in a non-league game.

Tri-County plays at Blue Hills on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in a Mayflower League game.

 

Girls Indoor Track

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 67, CAMBRIDGE RINDGE & LATIN 33: Sophie DeFreitas was a double-winner for Lincoln-Sudbury (3-1) as the Warriors cruised past Cambridge Rindge & Latin in a Dual County League meet at Boston University.

DeFreitas finished first in the 600 meters in 3:05.58 and in the 1,000 in a time of 1:45.9.

Katherine Knightly won the mile in 5:29, Samantha Johansen won the 55 hurdles in a personal best time of 9.37, and Isabella Martinez placed second in the shot put with a personal best throw of 28 feet, 6 inches.

L-S won the 4x400 relay in 4:16 with a team of Ciara Conway, Alessandra Nicarstro, Knightly and Millie O’Brien. O’Brien also won 55-meter dash.

The Warriors swept the 2-mile with Sophie Bannerman placing first, Emily Cohen in second and Summer Stubblebine coming in third.

L-S competes against Acton-Boxboro in a DCL meet on Wednesday at the Reggie Lewis Center at 4 p.m.

 

Gymnastics

MEDFIELD-ASHLAND-DOVER-SHERBORN 142.0, ALGONQUIN 134.15: Kat Poulopoulos won the all-around with a score of 37.6 as Medfield/Ashland/Dover-Sherborn defeated hosts Algonquin (3-2) in a non-league meet.

Sophia Cutler finished second for MADS with a 33.7 in the all-around.

Alliyah Yan placed third in the all-around with a 34.35 for Algonquin.

Poulopoulos won the vault with a 9.5 and the bars with a 9.3. Cutler won the beam with a 9.0, and Poulopoulos and Cutler tied for first in the floor at 9.4.

Algonquin hosts Marlborough in a Mid-Wach Legaue meet on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Boys Swimming

OLIVER AMES 93, FRANKLIN 76: Roy Wang qualified for sectionals in two events, winning the 500-yard freestyle and placing second in the 200 individual medley as Franklin (3-1) fell to visiting Oliver Ames in a Hockomock League meet.

Jack Cashin won the 100 breaststroke and qualified for sectionals by placing second in the 100 butterfly.

The 200-free relay team also made sectionals by finishing in second place.

Franklin competes against Mansfield in league meet on Friday at 7 p.m. at Wheaton College.
