BED BUGS can ruin a holiday and the worst cities in the US for the critters have been revealed. How can you spot them?

Bed bugs are a problem for travellers who choose to stay in dirty accommodation or unwashed facilities.
One traveller was even a victim of bed bugs from plane seats after a flight on British Airways, much to her surprise.
Those looking to travel to the US this year should note which cities are the worst for the pests, with pest control company Orkin revealing where are the worst-hit spots.
It isn’t great news for anyone heading to Maryland.

Also making the top ten were Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, popular destinations for British travellers when choosing America as a holiday.
Thankfully Orlando, which is known as home to Disneyland Florida, has fallen off the Top 50 list for the first time.
The study analysed bed bug treatments that were reported between 1 December 2016 and 30 November 2017 and used residential buildings as well as hotels in the discussion.

Orkin entomologist Dr Tim Husen explained: "They continue to invade our homes and businesses on a regular basis because they are not seasonal pests, and only need blood to survive.”
He also revealed that a clean property could still be plagued by the creatures.
He explained: "Any type of home is prone to bug bed bugs. It has nothing to do with sanitation.
“We have treated for bed bugs everywhere, from newly built upscale homes to public housing."

Guests who want to check if their hotel or apartment is home to bed bugs can look out for some telltale signs.
The bed and the mattress are the most obvious places to look and any blood smears or white eggs that are 1mm show the creatures live there.
Other places they can hide are in cupboards or skirting boards that meet the carpet.
It is advised to avoid putting suitcases on the bed or any fabric luggage holders to avoid bringing them home.
