WORCESTER — Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School's Athletic Booster Club is conducting a shoe collection drive through March 31 to raise funds for needed athletic equipment and to support the school's graduating seniors with scholarships.
The Booster Club will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Donations of gently worn, used or new shoes are welcome at any of the three AKF schools on New Bond Street, Worcester; ARTREACH, 322 West Boylston St., Worcester; all of the TD Bank branches in Auburn and Worcester (except downtown); or at 5 Dighton St., Worcester. Shoes of all sizes and styles are welcome.
All donated shoes then will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families.
“We are excited about our shoe drive," said Sharon Zielonka, Booster Club president. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like donate to us and help those less fortunate become self-sufficient. It’s a win-win for everyone. Our goal is to collect over 7,500 shoes.”
