TORONTO — A 55-year-old man faces numerous charges for allegedly sexually assaulting a child he met while working at a downtown hospital six years ago.

Toronto Police say the accused was employed at Toronto Western Hospital, near Bathurst and Dundas Sts., when he met the child’s mother in 2012.

“The man befriended the woman’s child,” spokesman Meaghan Gray said Thursday.

She said the man then allegedly showed pornography to the child, engaged in inappropriate communications with the child, and sexually assaulted the child.

In an effort to protect the alleged victim’s identity, Gray said police will not release further details of the mom, the child’s age or gender.

Officers from the Sex Crime’s Unit’s Child Exploitation Section executed a search warrant near Dufferin St. and Eglinton Ave. W. on Tuesday.

Terrence Noftall was arrested.

He is charged with invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, sexual assault, making sexually explicit material available to a child, luring a child under 18, attempting to make child pornography, making child pornography, and breach of a prohibition order.

University Health Network would not say how long Noftall worked at Toronto Western but did confirm he is no longer employed by the hospital.

“As this matter is now before the courts, UHN will not comment further beyond saying that this person’s employment has been terminated and that he worked in a non-clinical role,” spokesman Alexa Giorgi said.

Noftall remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court at 1000 Finch Ave. W. on Jan. 15.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call police at 416−808−8500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800−222−TIPS (8477).
