Greene County Board of Supervisors welcomes new member

GREENE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The Greene County Board of Supervisors held their first meeting for the new year. This meeting welcomed their newest member,Marie Durrer, to the board.

Durrer said she's lived in Greene County all her life and is ready to help the locals.

"I'm excited," said Durrer. "I'm looking forward to helping Greene County grow as well as help all the citizens of the county."

Durrer said it's a new experience for her, but she's hopes she can make a lasting impact on the community.

"Of course, starting out it's something entirely different," said Durrer. "I hope I can make a difference for our citizens in our county."

As a board member, Durrer said one of her priorities will focus on re-evaluating the county's school system.

"The most would be for our schools," said Durrer. "We're at capacity. We need to improve our schools and probably build some schools."

During the meeting, Michelle Flynn was re-elected for a second term as chairman. Bill Martin was elected vice-chair.

Durrer said she advises locals to come out to the board meetings so they know what's going on in Greene County.

Flynn said if locals want to get involved, they can check their website.
