Mechanical problems have caused a delay in the restart of classes at the Howard T. Ennis School after a major snowstorm closed districts across the peninsula.

An issue with the pool closed the school Thursday, Jan. 11, according to David Maull, public information officer for the Indian River School District.

"One of the problems we are having is with the pool pack," he said. "We had a part break down and the ventilation wasn't working properly to suck out all the moisture and chlorine smell."

There are repair crews on scene, Maull said, and they are hoping to have the school open by Tuesday. Students in the district do not have school on Friday or Monday.

The staff of Howard T. Ennis were to report to the auditorium at Indian River High School at 9 a.m.

"This is a precautionary issue," Maull said. "The chlorine smell was coming into other parts of the building, so it was really a safety issue."
