MSNBC’s Chris Matthews has never been one for restraint. The cable pundit’s inability to control his inside thoughts may even come back to bite him someday.
Matthews published another mental first draft this week when he compared members of President Trump’s family to former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s infamous sons, Uday and Qusay.
The moment took place as the host interviewed New York journalist Michael Wolff, whose new book, Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, has been questioned over its many factual errors.
Referring to the ongoing personnel drama in the Trump administration, Wolff said, "These factions in the White House that were absolutely cleaved, but gradually … [former chief of staff] Reince Priebus and [former chief strategist] Steve Bannon had an enormous amount of—they were polarized, let's say, in the early months of the administration, and they actually came together."
"I think that they became quite good friends because they understood … this was an entirely anomalous situation that they had found themselves in, and it was coming apart," the author added.
Matthews interjected with an aside regarding Priebus and Bannon’s interactions with White House senior adviser and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, "I guess when you're dealing with Uday and Qusay every day, you do find common purposes."
Nice.
The cherry on top of Matthews' long and rambling interview came when he offered a full-throated endorsement of Fire and Power, which, again, is being challenged for its many factual inaccuracies.
"Congratulations, Michael Wolff," Matthews said. "Fire and Fury—I don’t have to help this book, but go out and buy it or you're missing out on the big story of this year so far.”
Sure.
