Traditional teas will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons
Simply Gourmet Caterers is once again hosting the annual royal tea services at the Powel Crosley Estate beginning in February. The traditional teas will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays: Feb. 6, 7, 13, 14, 27 and 28 and March 13, 14, 20 and 21. The festive events will take pace in the upstairs living area of the mansion with wide views of the bay waters. Guests are welcome to stroll the picturesque grounds.
The lavish tea includes a wide array of sweet and savory morsels accompanied by unlimited tea from old-fashioned tea sets. Among comestibles offered will be a tea sandwich medley including turkey sundried tomato pinwheels, plus sweets like cassis marinated strawberry parfaits, coconut macaroon stacks, white chocolate mousse fruit tartlets and currant scones with Devonshire cream, plus much more.
“Every year the royal family hosts an afternoon tea for about 8000 guests at Buckingham Palace,” explained Chef Larry Barrett, president of Gourmet caterers, who added that the tradition began in 1860 with Queen Victoria. “It’s a grand and colorful affair with men wearing suits or military uniforms and women wearing dresses, hats and gloves. The 500-foot buffet table is set with a feast and tea, of course. The Crosley Estate offers the perfect ambiance for our re-creation of this royal event.”
Chef Barrett creates “culinary theatre” through fine cuisine paired with wines, reflecting historical events such as authentic reproductions of White House State Dinners.
The Powel Crosley Estate is located at One Seagate Drive, 8374 N. Tamiami Trail. Tickets for the tea are $35 with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Crosley Foundation. For reservations or further information, phone 941-225-9122.
