Samuel Adams has added a new drink to its line of products. Called Sam ’76, the beverage marries together the flavors of a lager and ale.

After more than a year of testing and 60 brews, the Boston-based brand began formulating the product with two active fermentations — a base lager and base ale. The base beers were then brewed and combined during a final maturation step when both yeasts depend on one another, the company said.

"We've brewed a revolutionary beer that brings together the best attributes of lager and ale with a taste and aroma that will completely surprise any craft beer drinker. We wanted to offer drinkers a craft beer they can enjoy during any drinking occasion, from a tailgate to an afternoon with friends, and that's exactly what Sam '76 delivers. It took many iterations to get right, but with one sip you'll understand why this beer is so unique," Jim Koch, Samuel Adams' Founder and Brewer, said.

Sam ’76 is a 4.7% ABV and combines American Cascade, Citra, Mosaic and Simcoe hops with notes of citrus. It is currently available for purchase nationwide in six-pack cans for the suggested retail price of $8.99-$9.99. A pack of 12 retails for $15.99-$17.99, and 16-oz. single serve cans can be purchased for $1.99-$2.49.
