Ambler Borough Council welcomes new members

AMBLER >> Ambler Borough Council began 2018 by acknowledging and welcoming new faces to the political foreground.

District Judge Patricia Zaffarano provided the Oath of Office for newly-elected council members Erin McKenna Endicott, Glynnis Siskind, and Nellie DiPietro.

Council member Frank DeRuosi of Ward 3 was elected the council’s new president by a 6-3 vote, replacing Salvatore Pasceri of Ward 3.

“Sal has always acted in the interest of the community,” DeRuosi said. “I’m humbled and honored to have been elected. I’m hoping to continue to grow Ambler greener, and I look forward to working with our wonderful people.

“I want to continue moving Ambler forward,” he said.

Council member Sara Hertz of Ward 2 was elected the borough’s vice president by a 5-4 vote.

In other matters, the Ambler Environmental Advisory Council will partner with Upper Dublin High School student Connie Liu in an Ocean Advocacy Campaign. The program’s mission is to create awareness about plastics in our oceans, and will be entered as part of the Bow Sweat Awareness Contest.

“We want to create avenues for awareness,” said Mary Margaret Monser, EAC chairwoman. “We want to keep everyone informed about what our plans are. In the bigger picture, we want to keep plastic out of our oceans.”

In other business, borough council will decide whether to rehire the services of Red Tail Restoration and Land Management, LLC. Red Tail Restoration has been contracted for the past two years by the borough to remove invasive species from Ambler Borough Park.

“They have a long-term plan for our community,” Monser said. “I’m hoping we reapprove them at the next council meeting.”
