Junior forward Hannah Norlin had 22 points and 13 rebounds as Wisconsin-Superior proved superior in a matchup of two of the top UMAC teams, cruising to a 63-40 victory Wednesday night at Ericksen Center in St. Paul.
Senior guard Hailey Kontny of Superior added 11 points and nine rebounds for the Yellowjackets (11-4 overall, 7-0 UMAC). Neither team shot well, and they nearly combined for 40 turnovers, but UWS held a commanding 50-26 rebounding advantage, including 22 offensive rebounds, in improving to 39-0 since entering the league in 2015.
Amy Berglund had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles (7-7, 4-2).
• Julia Daavettila became the sixth player in school history to score 1,000 points, pouring in 25 as Finlandia University held off St. Scholastica 84-80 in a nonconference game in Hancock, Mich.
Kelsie Richards added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Molly Berg helped ice it with three free throws in the final 40 seconds for the Lions (4-12), who beat the Saints for the first time since Dec. 13, 2014.
Michala Walther (19) points, Chelsea Swatek (18), Rashonna Thomas (16) and Danielle Cieluch (11) all reached double figures in scoring for the Saints (7-7), but it wasn't enough to overcome 32.5 percent shooting and 16 turnovers.
