Persons who would be displaced by the project demand reversion to old design with minimal submergence

The Kaleshwaram-Manchippa project Bhu Nirwasithula Sangham (project displaced), here on Thursday, held a bike rally and protest demonstration demanding that the government withdraw the new design and implement the old one to protect lands and reduce submergence of villages.

Talking to newsmen committee district convener Peddi Venkatramulu said that with the new design eight tribal hamlets in Manchippa, Amrad and Talkol gram panchayats would be submerged. Some 10,000 residents and 3,500 acre land would get affected with the construction of the project, he said.

“In fact, the Government did not publish the detailed project report which is a must before the construction of any project. Besides, it set aside the Land Acquisition Act-2013 which says the affected people shall mandatorily be provided with the alternative settlements, employment and suitable compensation for losing their habitations and lands,” he said.

Venkatramulu demanded the reduction of the project capacity to the original 0.45 tmcf from the amended 3.5 tmcf to minimize the loss. He was of the opinion that the old design-Manchippa and Kondemcheruvu project would benefit surrounding villages.
