At one time Framingham trailed Newton North by 24 points, but then the Flyers surged, coming all the way back to earn a 35-33 win over the Tigers in a Bay State Conference wrestling meet on Wednesday.
Heavyweight Trevor Smith (285) lost the final match, but by not getting pinned it allowed Framingham (6-1, 3-1 BSC) to maintain its lead and complete the comeback.
Micael Cabreja (152) won his match, 21-8, after trailing 5-0. Danillo DaSilva (145), Dylan O’Brien (170), Jake Gaudet (195), and Anthony Callahan (220) all won by pin. Seth Martin (182) won his match 10-2.
“It came down to the heavyweight match,” Framingham coach Jon Kanavich said. “We were winning by five at that point, so our guy [Trevor Smith] could lose but he couldn’t get pinned. So he lost for us, but he didn’t get pinned. So it ended up being a win for us.
“It’s tough to be in that situation, but Trevor has done it before and we played the match conservative. He wrestled smart for us and that won us the meet.”
Framingham was down 27-3 at one point before mounting its comeback.
