AJMER: A 25-year-old married woman of Bandrasindri village on Wednesday morning attempted suicide by consuming large number of sleeping pills after police asked her to file case for custody of her children in court. She was rushed to government hospital in
Kishangarh for treatment. In the evening, she refused to give statement to police and demanded to see her children.
According to police,
Priya Patidar was married to
Akash Patidar of
Chaksu, who works in share market at Mumbai. On December 24, she returned to her parents' house in Bandrasindri saying that her husband had thrown her out but kept their two children - 5-year-old daughter and 1.5-year-old son.
Police filed a case of dowry harassment against Priya's husband and filed charge-sheet in the court this week.
On Tuesday, Priya went to the police station again and requested police to give her the custody of her children. However, police told her that it was a court matter. On Wednesday morning, under depression she consumed sleeping pills. Her relatives took her to Kishangarh hospital. She was saved.
Priya said that her children are in Mumbai and her husband does not allow her to meet them. She sought police help but got no response.
Bandrasindri police said that they cannot do anything because granting custody of children is the jurisdiction of Mumbai court as the children are staying there. "We have informed the husband of the woman in this regard," said police.
