Hoping for a new home

Celeste Mundale of the Chippewa County Animal Shelter poses with the facility’s youngest canine, Gabe, who is approximately eight-months-old. Gabe was one of nearly 900 animals — primarily cats and dogs — that came to the shelter in 2017. Described as exuberant, friendly and highly adoptable, Mundale said Gabe needs a home with an active family and perhaps another young dog who shares his energy level. The Chippewa County Animal Shelter, as of Wednesday afternoon, had 23 dogs available and 25 cats. The facility, located at 3660 S. Mackinac Trail in Sault Ste. Marie, is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
