Shah Rukh Khan fans the world over have a reason to celebrate as the actor gets honoured with the World Economic Forum’s award. The 24th Annual Crystal Awards that the Forum hosts, recognises and celebrates artists from world over who in their own unique and influential ways, take up important causes that ail the society. In 48th Annual meeting will be held in Davos on January 22 where the awards will also be handed over to the awardees, as a part of celebrating their work to bring about a positive change.

The honour bestowed upon Shah Rukh, is part of recognising his efforts through the non‐profit Meer Foundation that has been helping acid attack survivors and those who suffered major burn injuries by providing them medical treatment, legal aid and helping rehabilitation through vocational training. The award also appreciates the Zero star’s aiding children’s hospital wards and supporting childcare centres. The actor took to Twitter to express gratitude for this honour and said, “Thank u for this honour. I consider my work with these heroic & beautiful women a great privilege as it imparts dignity & purpose to my life. I hope to spread awareness of the unparalleled heroism of these ladies & reach out to others in order to carry this work to its conclusion.”

Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, the other artists who are being awarded this year include Cate Blanchett, for her leadership in raising awareness of the refugee crisis in areas including Lebanon, Jordan and Australia. She has been an active advocate for increased solidarity and responsibility sharing for the displaced people across the world. Sir Elton John is also one of the three awardees for his leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The legendary musical solo artist established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) in 1992 and has raised more than $400 million to date to support HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness programmes around the world.

The Crystal Awardees are amongst 40 cultural leaders who believe in “creating a shared future in a fractured world”.
