The Inpatient treatment services at Colombo National Hospital and Colombo Eye Hospital have been crippled due to a token strike being staged by nurses.
The strike which was launched at 7 this morning (Jan. 11), will continue until 7 pm.
The strike has been launched to show their solidarity with striking nurses at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.
The nursing staff at Sri Jayewardenepura launched their strike 8 days ago in protest of introducing fingerprinting machines to mark their attendance.
Hospital authorities suspended all surgeries and closed several paying wards due to the strike.
Meanwhile, Director of Colombo National Hospital, Dr. W.K. Wickramasinghe told our news team that inpatient services have been crippled as 80% of their nursing staff had not reported to work today.
In addition, Director of the Colombo Eye Hospital, Dr. Lionel Mohandiram said that the clinics and OPD services are conducted despite the ongoing token strike.
