Barack Obama knows one place not to take big chances: the dance floor.
The former president explains his dancing philosophy, restricting himself to "staying in the pocket," in a video clip from My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, which premieres Friday on Netflix.
The former president, making his first talk show appearance since leaving the White House, is the inaugural guest for David Letterman's six-episode series, with one hour-long episode premiering per month.
Upcoming guests for longtime late-night host Letterman include George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, Jay-Z, Tina Fey and Howard Stern.

In the clip, Obama describes how he and daughter Sasha were watching Prince perform and he asked Sasha to "come up and dance, and she's an excellent dancer. Then Sasha pulls me up, which surprises me because she always mocks my dancing. … I have dad moves."
As a dad, the key to keeping out of trouble dancing is to "stay in the pocket," Obama explains. "Because I think everybody in here knows dads who get out of the pocket. And they’re trying stuff that they can’t really pull off … And you know, they start doing like karate kicks and all kinds of stuff."
Dads, karate kicks apparently are not recommended.
