MAHNOMEN, Minn. – Law enforcement officials are trying to piece together the circumstances that led to an unidentified woman being dropped off at the Naytahwaush Clinic in northwest Minnesota with a gunshot wound on Tuesday.
The woman has only identified herself with a nickname, and investigators believe she is from outside this area, Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier said Wednesday, Jan. 10.
“We’ve got a few people that we’re looking for,” Krier said. “We’re not even sure where the incident happened. All we know is that someone put her in a vehicle and took her to the Naytahwaush Clinic, dropped her off and left.”
The sheriff’s office received a 911 call at 1:13 p.m. Tuesday reporting a person with a gunshot wound. Deputies went to the Naytahwaush Clinic and found the woman being treated by medical staff.
She was taken to the Mahnomen Health Center and then airlifted to a Fargo hospital for further treatment. Her condition was not released.
What led to the woman being shot is unclear. Krier said there’s no danger to the public.
