With nearly 48,000 flights, Mumbai-Delhi was third busiest air route in the world in 2017

Mumbai-Delhi air route has now become the third busiest in the world, leaving behind San Francisco-Los Angeles and Cape Town-Johannesburg.
According to data compiled by OAG Aviation Worldwide Ltd, 47,462 flights flew between Mumbai and Delhi in the year 2017. The direct flight between Mumbai and Delhi takes less than two hours and connects the financial capital of India to the national capital. Mumbai-Delhi is the third busiest domestic air route in the entire world, after only Jeju-Seoul and Melbourne-Sydney air routes.
According to the report, the domestic air route that made for the busiest one is between Seoul and Jeju Island, a small island in South Korea. The beaches and resorts of Jeju are a favourite among local holiday-makers in South Korea. In 2017, 64,991 flights flew between Seoul and Jeju, almost double the 35,000 trips on the busiest North American route, Los Angeles-San Francisco.
And the second busiest domestic air route is Melbourne and Sydney with 54,519 flights in 2017.
But there are two domestic air routes of India which ranked on 11 and 16 respectively. According to the OAG’s Top 20 Busiest Domestic routes list, Bengaluru-Delhi, ranked 11 on the list with 29,427 flights, and the Bengaluru-Mumbai route, ranked at 16 with 23,857 flights.
