Novak Djokovic is not 100 per cent convinced his elbow is fully recovered

Novak Djokovic has been plagued with an elbow injury in recent weeks which forced him to withdraw from the Mubadala WTC exhibition and Qatar Open.

The Serbian, however, seems to be on the mend and dispatched world No 5 Dominic Thiem in straight sets this week at the Kooyang Classic.

But despite his emphatic victory, the 30-year-old raised concerns about his fitness after the match.

And he has insisted he is not feeling 100 per cent as he goes in search of his seventh Australian Open title next week.

“I don’t want to be over-confident,” Djokovic said following his victory over Thiem.

“I’m very, very happy with the way it went but I don’t want to say [the elbow is] 100 per cent.

“I’ll say that when I start a tournament and when I get to actually feel that it’s 100 per cent.

“I’ll try to go day by day. I had plenty of time, but at the same time the elbow needed more time to recover.”

Djokovic’s win over Thiem was his first match since playing in the Wimbledon quarter-finals last year and he admitted he is just happy to be back competing.

“I’m getting in the groove and getting my elbow in the match play and that was the first best-of-three match that I’ve played since Wimbledon last year,” he added.

“I’m very happy with the way it went and that’s all I can say.

“For now, I am in the tournament [Australian Open] and let’s hope with God’s grace that everything will be fine in the next five days.”
