Acting sternly on a ragging complaint by two students of Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, the anti-ragging committee of University Grants Commission has asked the superintendent of police (City) to take action after conducting a thorough probe.

The two students had demanded security, alleging they had been beaten and humiliated during ragging by another senior student.

Two students hailing from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh had alleged that a senior student in Yoga department for diploma course abused and beat them and even threatened to kill them. It was a common incident there.

They had further said that they had evidences in the form of CCTV footages which show an administrative officer being beaten along with them.

In the complaint, the students had said that they were living under threat, unable to focus on studies. They had demanded security in the apprehension of a repeat of what they had borne.

They had further alleged that the university administrator had not taken any action against the accused, his refusal prompting them  to  write to  the anti-ragging committee.

Speaking to The Pioneer, the administrator of the university Prof Lakshmi Nararayan Joshi said that on receiving the complaint, he had called both the students and pacified them. “However, during the time when I was on leave they shot off complaint to the UGC cell,” he added.

The investigating officer CO Kankhal Manoj Katyal said that both the complainants and the accused were summoned and their statements were recorded. “The administrator and other officials are also being interrogated in the matter.

We have also asked the administrator to explain why he did not take action in 24 hours  since the complaint was lodged as per the rule,” he said.
