Khartoum: Qatar and Sudan signed here yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the field of public prosecution to exchange information on laws, regulations, provisions and criminal justice systems, as well as to cooperate in the field of training of prosecutors.

Signed by Qatar's Attorney-General H E Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and Sudan's Attorney General Maulana Omar Ahmed Mohammed, the MoU stressed on regular bilateral consultations to review the level and magnitude of cooperation in training and mutual legal assistance.

Following the MoU signing, Dr Ali bin Fetais Al Marri said within the framework of bilateral cooperation, prosecutors from both sides will exchange visits to benefit from the other side experience in investigation and judiciary, as well as exchange experiences as Qatar's public production has 16 years of experience, during which Qatar managed to replace registry with electronic investigation - an experiment that will be transferred to Sudan in order to benefit from it.

Dr Al Marri praised the continuous and advanced relations between Sudan and Qatar in all fields, pointing out that his visit to Sudan aims to back the judiciary in all its forms and promote bilateral cooperation and joint coordination.

He praised the establishment of an independent public prosecutor in Sudan, stressing that it is a step in the right direction towards the support of the state institutions, the law and the independence of the judiciary completely from the executive and legislative branches.

For his part, the Sudanese Attorney General said that the signing of the MoU was within the framework of bilateral cooperation by exchanging joint training of prosecutors in both countries in the field of investigation and knowledge sharing, praising the strong and deep-rooted relations between Sudan and Qatar.

'We are keen on knowledge sharing and this memorandum of understanding augurs well for relations between the two countries in the legal fields, said the Sudanese Attorney General, adding that his discussions with the Qatari Attorney-General dealt with relations in the field of combating crime in general, and the Arab cooperation in relation to the public prosecution and its role and independence.

It is worth mentioning that Dr Al Marri met with State Minister at the Sudanese Ministry of Justice Tahani Ali Ahmed Toral-Dabba, where they discussed means of advancing joint cooperation between the two countries.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of the Sudan Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Nuaimi.
