A page 1 story in the Jan. 5 issue of The Patriot jumped the gun. Barnstable is one of 16 towns still vying for four TDI (transformative performance initiative) awards from the state.
Jan. 12 is the final application deadline for MassDevelopment's Gateway Cities program, Barnstable Economic Development Specialist Mike Trovato said by phone Jan. 9. "Then we just have to wait to hear back from them." If awarded, "we'd be working closely with MassDev on this TDI."
The 10 TDI Districts currently in development in Massachusetts – Brockton, Haverhill, Holyoke, Lynn, New Bedford, Peabody, Pittsfield, Revere, Springfield, and Worcester – will receive enhanced technical assistance, real-estate services, and equity investments in real estate to support local visions for redevelopment, and to catalyze and leverage investments and economic activities. Two additional Gateway Cities, Everett and Malden, will receive directed regional planning and implementation assistance to advance their district visions.
