Williams College's senior captain Matt Morris won three bouts at 125 pounds in the Williams Open last Saturday in Williamstown, Mass., and he now has a 100-35 career record. He became the 11th wrestler in the long-standing program to reach the century mark.
Morris, from Albany (Albany Academy), posted a pair of pins and a 12-4 decision before losing in the final at Williams. And, at the Citrus Open on Dec. 30 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., he also went 3-1, losing to All-American Victor Gilva of Augsburg 5-0 in the title bout.
"Matt has been a consistent competitor his whole career," coach Scott Honecker said. "It's been a real comfort to know we have such a strong anchor at the lightest weight class. His 100 wins show what a great competitor he is, but his greatest chapter is yet to be written."
Morris has his sights set on the New England Regionals on Feb. 24-25 in Worcester, Mass. He needs to finish third or better for a berth in the Division III NCAA Championships on March 9-10 in Cleveland.
