The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday announced the formation of a 11-member anti-sealing action committee, protesting against the ongoing sealing drives in markets across the city.
Protest march
AAP’s Delhi convener Gopal Rai also announced that the party will be organising a protest march against the sealing drives on January 15. “The municipalities are saying that the sealing drives are happening on orders from the Supreme Court. But the truth is that in the name of court orders the municipalities are looting the traders,” Mr. Rai said.
He said that the AAP will raise the issues of the traders from the streets to the parliament. “We had a meeting with the trade wing of AAP and discussed how the municipal officials are unnecessarily harassing the traders by minting money from them. They are hiding the corruption in the civic agencies by compensating for the losses through the hard earned money of the traders,” Mr. Rai said.
He said that in the last two weeks alone, the SDMC has collected around ₹17 crore in the name of sealing. The AAP said that on January 15, the protest march will start from the party office in Rouse Avenue and will end at the Civic Centre in Minto Road. On the same date, the issue against sealing will also be raise in the House.
