Two people have died in separate traffic crashes in northwestern Minnesota, authorities said.
A 31-year-old East Grand Forks man was killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle collision in Polk County. The victim, whose name has not been released, was driving east on Hwy. 2 near County Road 44 in Kertsonville Township when he rear-ended a truck, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, which was reported at 7:15 p.m., the patrol said.
Two men in the truck that was struck, driver David Neset, 55, and passenger Leslie Neset, 64, both of Fosston, Minn., were injured. Both men were taken to RiverView hospital in Crookston, where they were treated for noncritical injuries, the patrol said.
Earlier in the day, one person died in a crash involving an SUV and a semitrailer truck near Hawley in Clay County. The driver of the SUV died in the crash at County Road 31 and 120th Avenue S. The wreck occurred around 7:30 a.m.
The name of the driver has not been released. Few other details were immediately available.
