Ethiopian restaurant Blue Nile will open a second location in the Upper Kirby area Saturday.

The 2,800-square-foot space at 3030 Audley will feature the same menu as the original, said representative Martha T-sion. That means customers can expect dishes such as doro wat (chicken stew), veggie- and meat-filled samosas and entrees such as lamb tibs with injera, the spongy flat bread that Blue Nile makes with 100 percent teff, the nutrient-rich grain. The open dining room has vaulted beamed ceilings, plenty of white-tablecloth seating and a cozy fireplace in one corner. T-sion said the restaurant will offer a weekend brunch.

Blue Nile has been in business at 9400 Richmond since 1994. Per a previous Chronicle report, owner Tina Ameblue quit a $4.25-an-hour housekeeping job to open Blue Nile at the encouragement of friends. The decision to expand, T-sion said, came after years of customers asking to have a location closer to downtown.
