Police indicate the victim of the shooting at East 27th and North Claymont streets is a man in his 50s, who may have been shot after being robbed, according to spokeswoman Sgt. Stephanie Castellani.

Officers pushed back bystanders by broadening the taped off area, eventually encompassing multiple blocks. Residents of the crime scene area disputed with police whether they could cross the crime scene to get home.

A resident of the neighborhood said he heard "something like a car backfiring" and left his house only to find out it was shots fired.

One resident of the area, without giving her name, said this shooting didn't surprise her. She bundled up in a coat, gloves and boots to trek outside.

"It's nothing new," she said. "I'm just out here to see if I know the guy."

Police walked a young, black man, with his hands behind his back, to a police car.

This is an ongoing investigation, Castellani said, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
