When James Franco appeared on Tuesday's Late Show, host Stephen Colbert took the opportunity to address the recent criticisms of the star, including allegations which imply he committed acts of sexual misconduct.

"There were some things on Twitter. I haven't read them. I've heard about them," Franco said.

When Franco appeared at Sunday's Golden Globes, where he won a statue for his starring role in The Disaster Artist, many took ire with the fact that the actor was wearing a Time's Up pin to show support of the initiative to combat sexual harassment and gender inequality in Hollywood. During the ceremony, Breakfast Club star Ally Sheedy wrote in a series of now-deleted tweets about her disappointment in Franco's appearance at the Globes with the #MeToo hashtag and after he won saidL "Please never ask me why I left the film/tv business."

"I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy," Franco told Colbert. "I directed her in a play Off-Broadway. I had nothing but a great time with her. Total respect for her. I have no idea why she was upset."

The actor continued, acknowledging the vast criticisms he received from other Twitter users, and said that any accusations that he's heard leveled against him are not accurate, but he supports women being able to come forward.

"In my life, I pride myself in taking responsibility for things that I've done. I have to do that to maintain my wellbeing," Franco said. "I do it whenever I know there's something wrong or needs to be changed. I make it a point to do it. The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. But I completely support people coming out and be able to have a voice because they were unable to have a voice for so long, so I don't want to shut them down in any way. I think it's a good thing and I support it."

Neither Franco nor Colbert made mention of the 2014 incident in which Franco messaged a 17-year-old girl and suggested to rent a hotel room for them, something which Franco confirmed at the time and which sparked much of the criticism against the actor on Sunday.

Instead, Franco promised to make amends for any mistakes he's made without mentioning any specific examples. "The way I live my life, I can't live if there's restitution to be made. I will make it. So if I've done something wrong, I will fix it. I have to."
