New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested two of the accused in the brutal gangrape-murder of a teenager in Chandpur in Bulandshahr. The two men, who are in their twenties, said they had picked the victim at random, ‘for fun’.
Zulfiqar and Dilshad — both from Sikandrabad town in Bulandshahr — were arrested while their accomplice, Israel, is absconding, the police said.
According to a Times of India report, the 16-year-old victim was on her way home on January 2, after attending tuition classes when the three men spotted her and dragged her into their car on NH-91. She was gang-raped inside the moving vehicle and strangulated soon after. Later in the night, they dumped her body in Beel Akbarpur village of neighbouring GB Nagar district.
All this while, the victim’s family kept pleading that it was a case of kidnap, rape and murder, but was dismissed by the UP Police, who said that it was a case of elopement. The police had even denied the possibility of a sexual assault angle or kidnap.
According to SSP Muniraj G, the police have now seized the Maruti Alto car used by the accused in the case.
Police claimed that the accused told them that they had raped other girls too. They used to visit roadside eateries to target girls who were alone.
