New Delhi, Jan 10 (KNN) The E-Way bill norm under the Goods and Services Tax is to be rolled out from February 1st, Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) notified.

With less than a month remaining for the bill to be implemented, the tax office is in the process of readying the system.

The system for the E Way bill mechanism to get ready by 16th January, CBEC further said.  Also from 16th January, traders as well as transporters may start using the system on a voluntary basis before it becomes compulsory.

The tax office informed that the rules for the implementation of nationwide e-way Bill system for inter-State movement of goods on a compulsory basis will be notified and implemented from 1st February.

Once implemented the norm is expected to bring in uniformity across states in the movement of goods, the tax office claims.  With the norm to be implemented soon, the truckers as well as small transport operators remained concerned that it might reinstate the inspector raj.

Talking to KNN, Naveen Kumar Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) explained that the e way bill that is set to be implemented is bringing back the fear of undue harassment for the transporters along the roadways.

E Way Bill is an electronically generated document required to be generated for the movement of goods of value more than Rs 50,000 between states. (KNN/ DA)
