Mamata Banerjee once again attacked the BJP-led Assam Government and aired her concerns for the “people (read Bengalis) being driven out” of that State offering to host the displaced population in crisis if need be.
Addressing an audience at Alipurduar in North Bengal the Chief Minister said every citizen of India had the right and freedom to settle anywhere he liked and that no person could deter other person from doing so.
“It is difficult for me to understand as to why people will be driven out from any State when every citizen of India has a right to settle anywhere he likes,” she said offering to host the displaced people in crisis. The Chief Minister was referring to the National Registration of Citizenship drive in Assam where many people have allegedly failed to get their names enlisted in the first list.
Upping the ante on the saffron outfit for “selling Hinduism for narrow political gains” Banerjee, whose Trinamool Congress for the first time organised a priest conference at Birbhum on early this week said it had become BJP’s business to do business with Hindutva and Rama but, “I want to remind them that Hinduism is a great religion and far greater than BJP.”
She added the Trinamool Congress also worshipped Lord Rama and not Ravana and that “Rama was not a politician but an incarnation of God who stood for humanity.” The Trinamool did not sell religion for narrow political gains but followed true Hindusim and truly worshiped God.
“We follow Hinduism and worship God, the Mother Goddess, humanity, true culture and civilization unlike those who do business with religion,” she said.
Attacking the saffron leadership for going back on their pre-poll promises Banerjee said, “the BJP leaders who came here before the elections had promised that they will open seven tea estates in this area but I wonder whether even a single one has been opened” adding the “BJP only peddle lies and thrive on falsehood whereas the Trinamool Congress works for the people.
