Kailash Meghwal said media should be prohibited from reporting such disruptions and members moving to the well of the house.
Speaker of Rajasthan Assembly Kailash Meghwal has sought drastic steps to curb din and disruptions in-house saying it was done to grab headlines.
He said media should be prohibited from reporting such disruptions and members moving to the well of the house. He said members could also be banned from entering well besides media stopped from carrying such news if someone does so.
Meghwal was speaking at the All India Conference of Whips at Udaipur on Tuesday.
Meghwal said media has been giving a lot of prominence to disruptions and nuisance. As a result of it, a tendency to make headlines by creating nuisance in the house has been on the rise. This has directly led to falling in the standard of healthy and fruitful debate. Members consider it an easy way to get publicity, he said while interacting with media later.
Union Minister Vijay Goel said during the conference, there was a proposal to suspend any member who rushed to well. Different political parties should sit together and arrive at a consensus on such issues he said.
It was felt at the conference that media gave little coverage to debate but highlights adjournments forced by some members by creating a nuisance. Media should be asked not to give coverage to members suspended for rushing into well either was also a suggestion made at the conference.
Meghwal has made a valid point as one of the easiest ways to create headlines about an assembly proceeding is by disrupting its proceedings especially by rushing to the well.
Candidly, he also raised the issue of lack of any directives from assembly on this issue about coverage and a soft attitude in suspending members who indulge in such nuisances to grab headlines.
Thus, whips gathered at the conference wanted fresh steps to bring down nuisance in the house.
