After a slow start, the Watson Chapel Lady Wildcats earned another conference win over the Sherdian Lady Yellowjackets by a score of 50-43 on Tuesday at home.
Sheridan jumped off to a huge start after taking a 16-8 lead over Watson Chapel at the end of the first quarter. Diamond scored 12 of those first quarter points for Sheridan.
In the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats used an 11-2 run to take a 19-8 lead with less than five minutes before halftime.
Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half and ended up tied at halftime 27-27.
The game remained close in the third as both teams continued to trade baskets.
However, after trailing 37-36 at the end of the third quarter, Watson Chapel outscored Sheridan 13-7 in the fourth to claim the victory.
Jerica Bell led the way for the Lady Wildcats with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Wyvette Mayberry contributed with 13 points and six assists.
For Sheridan, Morris finished with a game-high 25 points.
Boys win by narrow margin
The Watson Chapel Wildcats escaped the Sheridan Yellowjackets Tuesday at home by a score of 52-51 for their second conference victory of the season.
As similar to the varsity girls, Watson Chapel got off to a slow start and found themselves trailing to Sheridan by eight points after the first quarter.
Tyler Cleveland scored eight points to help Sheridan take a 12-4 lead over the Wildcats after the first quarter.
Willie Vaughn led the way in the second quarter with nine points as Watson Chapel battled back to outscore Sheridan 19-9 in the second quarter and take a 23-21 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, both teams traded baskets to start the third quarter.
Tyler Cleveland had 13 third-quarter points for Sheridan, and the game was tied at 38-38 at the start of the fourth.
Watson Chapel held the lead for the majority of fourth quarter, as they started on a 5-0 run.
The Yellowjackets fought back to bring the Wildcats lead down to 49-48, but the Wildcats would prevail after clutch free throws from Markevion Harris and Willie Webster.
Vaughn finished with 19 points and eight boards for the Wildcats, and Harris added 12 points.
Cleveland led the way for Sheridan with a game-high of 29 points, including five field goals from behind the arc.
