12 hours to extract body of worker trapped in rubble

KUALA LUMPUR: The Fire and Rescue Department took 12 hours to extract the body of a Bangladeshi construction worker who was pinned under the rubble when part of an under construction building at Jalan Cochrane here collapsed.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Director Khirudin Drahman today said the body was removed from the under construction Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) substation at 5.23am before being handed to the police.
It is learnt that the remains were brought to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for a post-mortem.
In last evening's incident, the foreigner, in his 20s, was pinned under the rubble when the incomplete cement flooring below him gave way.
The victim was buried under tonnes of construction scaffolding, wet cement, and metal reinforcement beams in the 5pm incident.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) in a statement had said the incident occurred while the workers were layering concrete flooring on the third storey.
