The Fort Smith Police Department's Motor Unit will gain active status next week.

The Motor Unit, or Motorcycle Unit, of the department will be active Monday — the first time it has served the department since 2001. Three officers who have been selected from the Police Department's patrol division will serve as motorcycle officers within the unit, a news release states.

Officers Brandon Djordjevic and Robert Moudy and Cpl. Kyle Story will serve in the unit. They will conduct motor vehicle accident investigations, traffic enforcement and other special assignments from three Harley Davidson Electra Glides, the release states.

Djordjevic, Moudy and Story have completed 80 hours of training from Northwestern University and Harley Davidson that included slow speed maneuvering, machine nomenclature, braking, control, curve negotiation, defensive driving techniques, law enforcement techniques and motorcycle maintenance, the release states.

The public is invited to attend a presentation ceremony for the three officers at noon Saturday in the center court at Central Mall.
