WOBURN – A former Hudson firefighter pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a child pornography charge in Middlesex Superior Court after authorities said they found more than 600 child pornography videos and images on his computer.
Clerk Magistrate Matthew Day released Raymond Spellman, 44, without bail and ordered him to have no unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 18 and to continue counseling. Day also ordered Spellman not to use any social media or peer-to-peer networks and to provide all passwords and internet account information to the probation department. Spellman must provide his cellphone to the probation department if they request it.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in March 2017. The Massachusetts State Police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being downloaded and shared to an internet service provider tracked to Hudson, authorities said.
Police learned that two online storage services had disabled Spellman’s accounts because of the content of his downloads and reported him to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.
On May 30, State Police served a search warrant at Spellman’s Dean Street home and seized his laptop and cellphone. They discovered the images and videos, authorities said in the release.
At the time, Spellman was a Hudson firefighter. He resigned shortly after the search warrant was served at his home, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Spellman is due back in court on Feb. 15 for a pretrial hearing.
