A protest on Wednesday, by various dalit organisations in Belagavi condemning the death of a dalit youth in the Bhima-Koregaon unrest, suddenly turned violent.
Violence broke out at Chennamma Circle in the city when enraged protesters began pelting stones. A few city buses and two shops were damaged in the stone throwing.
In response, the police have beefed-up security at vulnerable areas in the city.
It may be recalled that clashes broke out in Bhima Koregaon on January 1. The Maharashtra government gave a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the family of Rahul Phatangade, the youth who was killed in the violence.
