A tense situation was prevailed in Parliament this afternoon (Jan. 10) when Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe rose to make a special statement.
The Joint Opposition MP’s converged into the Well of the House and started to protest.
The JO members Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Ranjith Zoysa, Gamini Lokuge, Sisira Jayakody, Pavithra Wanniarachchi and government MP's Kavinda Jayawardena, Nalin Bandara, Hector Appuhami and Chaminda Wijesiri were among them.
Then the Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya adjourned the sessions for 10 minutes for a party leaders’ meeting.
Thereafter, Deputy Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said that the Bond report will be tabled on 17th of this month.
Thereafter, the Prime Minister made his special statement in which he explained the steps taken by the government to probe the Central Bank bond controversy after details emerged.
However, the Speaker adjourned the Parliament until 23rd of this month.
Meanwhile, it was reported that MP Kavinda Jayawardena fainted and collapsed inside the chamber.
He was taken to the medical center of the Parliament and doctors have told he may have fainted as he had not taken his breakfast.
Meanwhile, his staff said that there is no truth in the rumour that the MP was hospitalized.
