
TANGAIL, Jan 9: Around 30,000 people of different villages in Mirzapur Upazila of the district have been suffering for a long time for lack of a bridge on a canal of the Dhaleswari River near Kamarpara Bazaar on Mirzapur-Gomgram road.
During rainy season, the local people cross the canal on boat while in dry season they cross it through a bamboo bridge.
While visiting the area, it was found that thousands of people of different villages including Amrail, Telipara, Dhunat, Chhotagabra, Borogara, Gomgram, Chunnya, Jadabpur, Kamarpara, Harua, Marishon, Bhawra, Shashadharpotty, Araipara, Chanpur and Chamutia villages under Mirzapur Upazila cross the road daily. The road has been turned pucca in most parts. Different light vehicles also ply through the road daily. But, due to lack of a bridge at Kamarpara area, people are suffering much.
Siddik Hossen of Chhotogabra Village said, "Building a bridge at the said area is necessary to ease people's plight. If the government builds a bridge there, our sufferings will decrease. We urge the government to build a bridge there soon."
Trader Azahar of Kamarpara Bazaar said, "People's sufferings will ease if a bridge is built here. Besides, the government's development works will continue."
Chairman of Bhawra Union Parishad Md Amzad Hossen said, "We have contacted with the higher authority to build a bridge at Kamarpara. They have assured us of building a bridge there very soon."
Local lawmaker Alhaz Md Ekabbor Hossen said, "We will take steps to build a bridge at the area very soon. As a result, the people's plight will be removed."
