Huddersfield crash horror: Car hits bus stop - four injured in dramatic smash
FOUR people have been injured after a car crashed into a bus stop scattering debris across a busy main road.
Two women waiting at the bus stop were seriously injured when the BMW mounted the pavement - sending the shelter flying into the road as a result of the impact.
The pair were rushed to Leeds General Infirmary, one by air ambulance and the other by road.
Another woman and the male BMW driver were also hurt in the crash in Wakefield Road, Huddersfield, at 8.30am today.
Dramatic images from the scene show glass strewn across the road as the crumpled remains of the bus shelter collapsed.
The airbag on the passenger-side of dark-coloured BMW is visible through the windscreen.
And both front doors and the boot were been flung open in the crash, which saw the car hurtling into a lamppost with half the front bumper dragging along the ground.
Wakefield Road, in the Broad Lane area, is still closed and traffic is being diverted.
Fire engines, ambulances and police are at the scene, and work to clear debris from the road is now underway.
